Local residents said it was "a relief" that councillors were finally listening to public concerns as plans for a retail unit & apartments set to be built on a busy car park have been rejected by councillors.
Plans were submitted to the local council months ago for a car park located in the towns King Oswy drive to be the site of two new retail units with two apartments located on the 1st floor, however the plans come up against a number of local objections to the development.
The proposals which were put before councillors today, council planning officers recommended that they refuse the development on the grounds that following consideration of the plans submitted by the applicant GCS DEVELOPMENTS NE LTD, the proposed layout & construction of the building proposed to be built was “unsympathetic” to the other buildings in the immediate vicinity or would have a visual impact on the buildings nearby.
Concerns over the possible loss of the car parking spaces causing additional parking problems such as vehicles parking on paths & Anti Social Behaviour all resulted in councillors at todays council meeting formally rejecting the plans for development, with members of the public said to be breathing a sigh of relief that councillors are now finally listening to public concerns over developments that potentially have a signifiant impact on their local communities & calling it a "step in the right direction"....
