
Proposals put to the local council will see the run down building brought back into use as three seperate retail units with accomodation to the upper floors.
An applications been put before council planning officers that would potentially see a run down building thats stood empty for years brought back into use.
Mr Graeme Cummings of Cummings Archetects Ltd has submitted an application to Hartlepool Borough Council that will see the building formally used as a retail unit & then previously used as a public house in the mid 2000s brought back into use as smaller subdivided retail units on the ground floor as well as accomodation created by way of five residential apartments to the upper floors.

The building was "raided" by Cleveland Police last year with a huge drugs haul found.
The building stood empty for a number of years & slowly fell into decay when a number of businesses who set up in the building quickly went under, leaving the building vacant for many years.
Over the years, its havd a number of different business uses, It was once formally a Fish & Chip Resteraunt, before a number of Takeaway establishments tried to set up in the building.
Prior to that it was the home of the Corner House Pub whicih closed in the Mid 2000s

Several similar raids have been undertaken on a number of the towns empty retail buildings following claims of their links to organised crime.
In December 2022, it was reported by local press that police raided the building following intelligence that it was being used as a Cannabis farm.
Police broke into the building to find Two hundred & fifty thousand pounds worth of cannabis plants, leading to the arreast of two Albanian Men who were later jailed at Teesside Court when police discovered over 800 Cannabis plants spread across 15 rooms of the derelict building.
Plans put forward by the new develpers look to subdivide the main retail downstairs unit into three seperate retail spaces, as well as the creation of five self contained flats to the first and second floors.
Developers have spent the last few weeks gutting the building in preperation for works to be given approval by the local council which they hope will bring the building back into use after years of neglect.
A decision on the proposals by council planning officers is likley to be made in early May 2023
