Hartlepool Borough Council has been successful at securing funding which in turn will lead to the development of new projects & exhibitions for the towns museum
Its claimed the funding was awarded to the local council by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation & is payable in two installments to the authority upon the completion of a number of conditions set out by the charity...
Its claimed that up to £90,000 worth of funding was available over two years to succesful appicants & is awarded to museums thrugh a rigarous shortlisting scheme.
HBC was awarded the £88k in grant funding back in December 2022..
Following successful application by the local council to the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation in December 2022 the Museum of Hartlepool was informed it was to be awarded a grant for the sum of £88,285 payable over two years.
The Grant offer reportedly remains open for one year from the award date, where its claimed the foundation awarding the money is set to work closely with council officers to finalise the project budget, before any grant money is released.....
The grant itself is said to fund an engagement project that will support the redevelopment of the Museum of Hartlepool through new collections and community work, with a portion of the funding designed to fund the recruitment of an officer within a fixed term post agreement supporting the museum & gallery team, as well as the delivering of community workshops pop-ups & displays in non museum spaces & co-hosting the development of new displays for the museum.
The grant is said to have been “welcomed” by the local borough council who claim that the funding can be put towards ensuring the museum remains relevant & viable to users to visit as well as being one of the centrepieces of the upcoming tall ships event set to be hosted by Hartlepool in June 2023.
However concerns over the majority of the funding being used to pay for a new fixed term staffing post has led to speculation that once the creation of the new staff post is made & successful recruitment of the candidate is undertaken, just how much of the grant funding will actually be left for the museum to use on the ventures they intend to create ?
