Flu spread leads to North East Ambulance declaring yet another “critical incident'


Nearly one hundred patients have been admitted with flu & thirty seven said to be in hospital with COVID-19 leading to NEAS declaring yet another critical incident....

North East Ambulance Service has reportedly again declared an unprecedented “critical incident” after significant demand on the service due to this years flu strain has caused immense pressures on its services

This years flu is said to be one of the "worst" with unprecedented demand for NHS service's as the virus hits the pulmonary system significantly,


This years flu pandemic (although not officially declared as a pandemic by the government) has left hundreds of patients flocking to NHS urgent care services, as this years flu virus targets the cardiopulmonary system with significant ferocity, especially to those patients with underlying health conditions, with claims that increasing COVID-19 outbreaks is leading to some patients being left unable to distinguish whether their condition is Flu or COVID, with symptoms said to be almost "identical".

According to most recent reports, its claimed almost one hundred patients have now been admitted to hospital with flu, with a further thirty seven patients suffering from COVID being admitted to hospital wards.

Pneumonia like those suffering with H1N1 influenza like this image is a significant risk, with patients suffering this years strain said to be at particular risk , especially those who have underlying health conditions


Its promoting calls by NHS services to ask people to again consider limiting their contact with other people, especially those who are medically vulnerable in an attempt to prevent the outbreak of influenza from causing further significant demand on NHS services, with even those immunised through their flu jabs said to be experiencing significant symptoms of the virus thats in turn leading to a number of hospital admissions, with others saying its taken weeks for any significant recovery from the virus.


Demand this year has never been so high

Its reported to be the second time the North East Ambulance Service has declared an unprecedented critical incident.


North East Ambulance Service issued a statement to social media only recently saying that You can help support keeping yourself, your family and our hospitals safe with a number of key actions.


• If you have not already had your key seasonal immunisations, and you are eligible – please ensure you get them – flu and COVID are your critical vaccinations.


• Flu – if you are feeling unwell, with flu like symptoms – a sudden high temperature, an aching body, exhaustion / lethargy, a dry cough, sore throat, headache etc. there are a number of things you can do to support a return to good health.


1. Rest and sleep

2. Keep warm

3. Take paracetamol or ibuprofen to lower your temperature and treat aches and pains

4. Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration


• Avoid spreading flu


1. Wash your hands often with warm water and soap

2. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze

3. Bin used tissues as quickly as possible
