Plans for twelve affordable bungalows to be built on the site of a former care home have been approved by council officers, bringing back into use a site which was formally plagued with vandalism & ASB.
The site of the former Wynyard house in the towns Wynyard Road was demolished just a couple of years ago & the site cleared for future development following the closure of a care home that was previously situated on the land ....
It then fell into considerable disrepair, with ward councillors at the time eager for the land to be put back into development to prevent any further escalation of the areas already then ongoing problems with Anti Social Behaviour

The former care home was then demolished & the land levelled for potential future development where Edwards Architecture, acting on behalf of the applicant North Star Housing then submitted proposals to Hartlepool Borough Council for the land to be developed into twelve two bedroomed affordable bungalows with associated parking.
Council Officers were reportedly "keen" to see the development go ahead in a bid to address some of the issues relating to the lack of affordable bungalows in the area, as well as bringing the site back into use after a number of years the land laid vacant & unused, with council officers agreeing the development should go ahead, with construction work likely to begin within months of the development being approved.
Its reported that six of the properties will be deemed to be "general needs" & allocated only to persons over the age of 55, with the remaining plots allocated to those with a medical priority need in accordance with both North Star Housings lettings scheme.

North Star Housing have had a number of similar developments being approved by the local council over a number of years, with the small social housing providers presence within Hartlepool becoming increasingly noticed as being a provider of high quality affordable social accommodation with demand for homes provided by the landlords North Star said to be significantly outstripping supply.
